Service Department Announcements

Leaf Collection

The Service Department will start leaf collection around the beginning of October and will continue leaf collection as long as weather permits and there are leaves to be picked up. Bedford is divided into four sections with a truck patrolling each section continuously. Bedford collects approximately 6000 cubic yards of leaves every year.

Brush and Branch Collection

In 2017, branch collection will be the weeks of:

  • April 3
  • May 1
  • June 5
  • July 3
  • August 7
  • September 4
  • October 2

All branches and brush need to be on the curb and called into the Service Department before the start of brush pick up.

Place your branches on treelawn with cut end facing the street or in the direction of traffic. All branches must be laid in the same direction. Branches cannot be larger than 10 inches in diameter. Leave limbs as long as possible to make continuous feed easier into the chipper.   Limbs exceeding 10 inches in diameter, or less than 3 feet in length will not be picked up.

You must call the Service Department at 440-735-6583 and your address will be placed on a list for pick up.

UNACCEPTABLE – rose bushes, grape vines, pricker bushes, firewood, fence post, wood pallets or wood with nails or screws (these items need to be placed in trash bag or bundled and put out for weekly trash collection). Railroad ties and stumps have to be hauled away at homeowner’s expense.

Snaking The Sewer

The Service Department will snake out the sanitary sewer from your house to the street as long as there is a proper cleanout is installed in line. To make an appointment to have your line snaked, call the Service Department at 440-735-6583 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  We have adjusted the frequency that this service is available. Beginning April 1, 2015, the sewer service will only be available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Should you have emergency issues with your sanitary sewer over the weekend and on the days it is not available, you will need to contact a plumber.

Effective January 1, 2014, we will only service sanitary lines twice (2) a year, any additional servicing will have to be done by a plumber of your choice at your expense.

The Service Department has the right to refuse to snake any home. The reasons they may do this are that the home is unsafe, unlawful, lacks maintenance or in disrepair.  Any home the Service Department enters must have running water, electric and provide sufficient lighting for the work area.  The City of Bedford is not responsible for any damage or necessary clean up during the snaking of the sanitary sewer.
