Donald Saunders

Ward 6 City Council

Donald Saunders is the council member for Ward 6. His life has been dedicated to the infrastructure of Bedford and the surrounding communities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Donald Saunders graduated from Padua Franciscan High School in 1973. From there, he went on to study civil engineering at the University of Dayton.

While at university, he was part of Epsilon Delta Tau fraternity. He also became President of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers State Student Chapter. Treasurer of the University of Dayton Student Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Upon graduating in 1977, he began working for the Cuyahoga County Engineers Office as a highway design engineer, a position he held for 25 years. He also studied construction and surveying at the University of Akron from 1977 to 1981.

Saunders became a zoning inspector for nearby Northfield Center Township in 2004 and still holds that position. He also worked as a zoning inspector for Sagamore Hills Township from 2011 to 2014.

 

POLITICAL POSITIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Mr. Saunders has been the Ward 6 council member since 1998. He was also a candidate for Cuyahoga County Council District 9 in 2014, for which he came in 3rd in the primaries. Don was Democratic City Leader for the Bedford/Walton Hills Party at one point as well.

 

PERSONAL LIFE

Councilman Saunders is an avid Cleveland Sports fan and has an affinity for Dodge Barracudas. He also enjoys going to many local events, both in Bedford and the surrounding communities. He has 5 children and spends a great deal of time with family.
